Got Heron, Egret & Bittern Control Problems?
How to repellent and deterrent Heron, Egret & Bittern Control by Bird-X
Bird-X offers a variety of options to keep herons and egrets out of unwanted spaces, including the sonic HeronBuster device, which treats up to 7 acres with naturally-recorded predator calls combined with heron and egret distress cries. This device was created solely for the non-lethal prevention of heron, egrets, bitterns, and other waterbirds.
All types of fish ponds are best protected by a physical barrier such as Bird Netting. Netting protects fish from being eaten by egrets, herons, bitterns, cormorants, and other birds which prey on fish, blocking off their food source; therefore eliminating, in most cases, the reason for their attraction to the property.
Birds can be much more difficult to treat if there is a food source available, so if it is possible to block off that food source, this is the first recommendation.
If netting isn’t possible, such as on lakes, lagoons, or natural bodies of water, the Gator Guard floating decoy “moves” along with the water, simulating a live predator.
Floating Bird Balls are a great option for bodies of water like retention ponds or lakes. These balls eliminate waterfowl, like heron, egrets, and bitterns, by completely covering the water’s surface to prevent pest water birds from landing. The balls even allow sunlight to maintain the water’s ecosystem. Bacteria, and other vegetation growing on the balls is not a problem due to the continuous motion on the surface of the water.
Visual scares, including Terror Eyes or Scare-Eye Balloons, have also proven to be successful.
For ledges, bridges, window sills, signs, or other areas that birds are perching and making a mess, the most effective method is to install either Bird Spikes or, for especially large species, Avishock™ electrified bird track. These 2 products differ from traditional spikes because they were designed for large-sized birds. Neither product will harm birds, but will make the surface unpleasant and uninviting.
Most fishing birds are protected by the U.S. Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918. All Bird-X products are non-lethal, chemical-free and humane, but check your local laws to be certain not to disrupt birds when they are nesting.
