How to Help Deter Woodpeckers
The Woodpecker PRO is designed specifically for woodpecker deterrence and can be used alone or as part of an integrated bird management approach. For additional visual deterrence, Irri-Tape can be installed in areas where woodpecker activity has been observed. The BirdXPeller PRO and Super BirdXPeller (for larger areas) also include settings for woodpeckers. Applying a sticky bird repellent to appropriate surfaces is another option for helping manage woodpecker activity.
About woodpeckers
Woodpeckers often peck on structures as part of territorial and mating behavior. The rapid pecking, known as drilling, is commonly used to establish territory and attract mates. One option for helping manage woodpecker activity is installing Irri-tape iridescent bird tape in areas where woodpecker activity has been observed.
Woodpeckers also peck to search for food, using their strong bills to access insects and grubs beneath the surface of wood. In addition, they create cavities for nesting and roosting, and may excavate holes in wood siding or other suitable building materials. If woodpecker nesting or roosting activity is observed, bird netting can be installed as a physical barrier to help restrict access to those areas.
