Bird-X offers a variety of skunk deterrent products designed to help discourage skunk activity around your property. Depending on the size and layout of the area, options may include the Yard Gard, Solar Yard Gard Nature’s Defense, and/or the Critter Blaster PRO for larger areas.
How to Help Discourage Skunk Activity:
For backyards, porches, and areas 3,000-4,000 sq. ft: The Yard Gard and Solar Yard Gard are electronic ultrasonic devices designed to help discourage skunks and other pest animals from entering treated areas. These units emit ultrasonic frequencies outside the range of human hearing and include settings for a variety of target animals, including skunks. They can be used in areas such as lawns, gardens, porches, and beneath elevated structures where skunk activity may occur.
To help limit access to enclosed areas and gardens, Exclusion Netting (or “Bird Netting”) can be used to create a physical barrier around areas where skunk activity may occur. Before installing netting around structures such as porches, inspect the area to help ensure no young animals are present. If baby skunks are present, delaying installation until the area is no longer occupied may be appropriate. Exclusion netting can also be used to help limit access by other pest animals, including rats, opossums, squirrels, and more.
Before installing Bird-X products, clean areas with signs of skunk activity using appropriate cleaning and safety practices. Removing droppings, nesting materials, and other attractants, as well as addressing burrows or areas beneath structures where skunk activity has occurred, can help prepare the site for deterrent products. Reducing access to potential food sources, such as rodents, and limiting shelter opportunities may also support an overall skunk management plan.
